The Taster’s Pantry Single-Blind Tasting Class – Chardonnay
January 29, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm$30.00
JANUARY VARIETAL – CHARDONNAY
The Taster’s Pantry is a year-long educational series designed to nurture and grow your palate. Like any skill, developing a better palate takes thoughtful and consistent practice. These classes are an opportunity to challenge yourself and grow in a relaxed and judgement-free environment.
Each month we present two seperate but complimentary classes: a Fruit Tasting devoted to exploring a single fruit and its different shades of flavor, and a Single-Blind wine varietal tasting. Fruit Tastings are designed to strengthen your recognition of common aromas and flavors, while Single-Blind Tastings are an opportunity to test that recognition and build skill while blind tasting wine. Each class stands alone, but attendance at both sessions will give you the deepest possible learning opportunity each month.
SINGLE-BLIND WINE VARIETAL TASTING:
At each Single-Blind class we will consider a single varietal as it is expressed around the world through different geographies and winemaking traditions. Wines will be presented blind, though the varietal will be known beforehand (a practice called Single Blind tasting)- our task will be to sort through the various expressions to gain a deeper understanding of both the grape varietal and terroirs in question. Classes will consist of a brief history of the grape varietal, a component tasting to tune the palate, and finally a single-blind tasting of 6 different wines. Students will be exposed to basics in blind tasting methodologies, including deductive reasoning, use of visual cues, assesment of wine components, and differentiation of New and Old-world style differences.
Single-Blind tasting presents fun challenges, deep experiential learning opportunities, and the satisfaction of identifying wines through sight, taste and scent alone.
