The Taster’s Pantry Fruit Tasting Class – Apples

January 15, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The Taster’s Pantry is a year-long educational series designed to nurture and grow your palate. Like any skill, developing a better palate takes thoughtful and consistent practice. These classes are an opportunity to challenge yourself and grow in a relaxed and judgement-free environment.
Each month we present two seperate but complimentary classes: a Fruit Tasting devoted to exploring a single fruit and its different shades of flavor, and a Single-Blind wine varietal tasting. Fruit Tastings are designed to strengthen your recognition of common aromas and flavors, while Single-Blind Tastings are an opportunity to test that recognition and build skill while blind tasting wine. Each class stands alone, but attendance at both sessions will give you the deepest possible learning opportunity each month.
We will consider an in-season fruit that is frequently used as an important flavor descriptor for wine. Students will be presented with a multitude of flavors related to the fruit in question- fresh, dried, candied, jam, preserves, pith, peels, and so on. We will explore the history and botanical description of the fruit, followed by a presentation of flavors, and finally a tasting of 6 wines commonly associated with that fruit’s flavor profile. The intense focus and depth of these sessions are designed to build familiarity and confidence with fundamental wine flavor descriptors.
